Help for male American bull dog piddling, shaking and generally very submissive?

We have a two year old American bull dog, Dozer, with some behavioral issues.

He is very timid in personality, but extremely affectionate. He is not fixed, but is scheduled to be neutered this June.

We are experiencing some behavioral problems with him, and are about at the end of our rope. We’re hoping that fixing him will help him, but want to learn how to best handle and react to his issues so he can be happier.

He has an extremely guilty personality. When our other dog (Abby) is doing something wrong, and gets scolded, Dozer dashes to his kennel, tail between the legs. When he gets scolded he physically shakes so badly he looks like he is hypothermic. (This is recent, he has not always done this and we have been his only owners since we brought him home at 12 weeks. He has never been hit, or hurt in anyway.)

He has also picked up an old bad habit we thought we’d gotten passed..piddling. About a year ago he used to do this very badly. On everyone. Anyone who came into the house would get peed on. (just a tiny squirt, but still) Then we moved and he just stopped.

Well he’s started doing this again but, now it usually at my husband and other men. If we scold him for piddling, it gets much worse. Lots of pee, shaking, running around in fear squirting pee everywhere until I can get him outside. So I’ve taken to just walking over to the door and opening it after he piddles and he heads straight outside without the mess and commotion.

I don’t know what to do to help him. I don’t want to ignore the issue, but any form of scolding makes it worse.

He has also developed a fear of the yard. He won’t leave the porch, although he spent all winter romping in and adoring his yard. My only theory is that it has something to do with the wet grass, because he doesn’t like his feet to get wet…

Any ideas how we can help him get over his fear? We’re expecting a baby in July, I’ve read that can cause dogs to act up…any thoughts on that? Thank you!
He was a cardboard box puppy from a “breeder”. In hindsight, that may not have been the wisest investment, but we love him very much.

Nobody in my house has ever or would ever hit or abuse an animal. Sometimes I worry that someone harassed him through the fence of our yard, but he’s never had any visible hurts.

When Dozer was a puppy and would get aggressive, my husband would roll him over on his back to teach him that he wasn’t dominant. (At someone’s advice, I’m not sure if it was good advice now though. It was always gentle, and never in anger.)

His only form of punishment has been firm “no” and “bed time” (kennel).

What would happen if it went into my backyard and just started digging?

I know I’d eventually reach boulders/rock but say I had explosives or a bull dozer to remove them and I just kept digging. What would I eventually encounter? Water? Lava?
I’m in the U.S.

And yes I know its illegal to just go digging its a hyptohetical question I’ve always been curious about.
